Career An historian of economics, concentrating on the work of Smith, Malthus and Ricardo. He also introduced the work of the Austrian economists to a largely unaware English-speaking public. His Philosophy and Political Economy was much appreciated in continental Europe. He contributed extensively to Palgrave's Dictionary of Political Economy and published many articles in the Economic Journal.
