Clark, J. B (1847.1.27-1938.3.21)

 アメリカの経済学者。アマースト大学を卒業し,ドイツに留学。主としてクニースについて経済学を学び,帰国して (1875),カールトン (77-81),スミス (82-93),アマースト (92-95)等の各大学に経済学を講じ,ついでコロンビア大学の教授となる (95-1923)。退職後カーネギー財団に入り,教会関係の種々の協会にも関係して晩年を送った。彼の経済思想は,初期の著作The philosophy of wealth, 1885からEssentials of economic theory, 1907に至るまで多少の変化はあるが,彼の経済学史上の最大の功績はワルラスジェヴォンズメンガー等とは独立に私有財産制と自由競争原理とを基礎として限界効用理論の体系を樹立した点にある。(岩)
