Lenin, V. I (1870.4.22-1924.1.21)

Birthplace Simbirsk, Russia.
Posts Held Organiser of Russian Communist Party; Leader of Russia after the 1917 Revolution.
Degrees Grad. Law Univ. St Petersburg, 1891.
Publications Books: 1. The Development of Capitalism in Russia (1899, 1960); 2. What is to be Done? (1901, 1961); 3. Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism (1916, 1964); 4. The State and Revolution (1917, 1964); 5. Selected Works , 12 vols (1935-8).
Career His writings, though revered in Soviet Russia, are not remarkable for their originality. Imperialism ... owes much to the writings of Hobson, Bukharin, and Hilferding, and even the earlier Development of Capitalism in Russia , his only genuine contribution to economics, is derivative. This latter work, while presented as an application of the theory of Marx's Capital to Russian conditions, is in fact a radically unorthodox work which abandons many of the central indeas of Marxism, such as the progressive role of industrialisation in the countryside.
