Career One of the independent discoverers of the theory of differential rent, more usually associated with Ricardo. His Essays... contains a clear statement of the principle of diminishing returns. His writings contain various anticipations of later doctrine, e.g. the idea that international trade tends to equalise factor prices between countries.
